Zebra crossing for Shipbourne Road, Tonbridge

Kent County Council will be installing a new zebra crossing and widening the cycle lanes on Shipbourne Road, Tonbridge.

The crossing will replace the existing refuge island just south of the junction with Bishops Oak Ride.

The works will see widening of the existing cycle lanes from Willow Lea down to White Cottage Road and installing an additional streetlight.

The work will take around four weeks to complete, starting on August 5.

Kent County Council is installing this crossing to assist pedestrians crossing Shipbourne Road, particularly those visiting the shops on both sides of this road and students walking to the nearby schools.

The new crossing will provide a safer link between the bus stops on either side of the dual carriageway.

The scheme will seek to encourage slower vehicle speeds and assist in improving road safety in the vicinity of the two secondary schools.

This scheme is being funded by local county member grants and the Local Transport Plan (LTP) block allocation for 2017/18.
