A scheme to tidy up the villages of Leeds, Otham, Boughton Monchelsea and Downswood and also the Parkwood area has been given a boost thanks to a community grant from Kent County Council.
Local member for Maidstone South East Gary Cooke continued his fight to improve the local environment by contributing more than £5,000 towards the Autumn Clean in the villages, which included clearing shrubs, tidying verges and picking up litter.
The Parish Council and the men’s group in Parkwood were asked to provide a list of jobs which needed to be addressed in their areas.
Working alongside the local groups, KCC Highways spent on average a day in each area working with volunteers who helped with general cleaning and litter picks.
To continue the good work, Mr Cooke invited the Parish Councils and the Men’s Group to select up to £300 worth of equipment each which they could keep for future use.
This will hopefully encourage the many volunteers involved on the ‘Autumn Cleans’ to organise their own clean ups throughout the year.
