Two-way traffic to return to Tonbridge High Street

Two-way traffic will return to Tonbridge High Street from Thursday (May 19).

The multi-million pound works to Tonbridge High Street are now drawing to a close with Medway Wharf Road opened up to traffic from the High street.

This week, there have been night time closures of the High Street for the completion of the resurfacing works.

It started on Monday (May 16) running between 7pm and 7am. The final overnight closure to complete these works is Friday.

Access to businesses and homes will be allowed during these times but there may be delays gaining access as plant and machinery may need to be moved.

The remaining work on the pavements and placing street furniture will continue as quickly as possible and will be completed by June 6 at the latest.

These finishing touches will not affect the flow of traffic.

A Kent County Council spokesman said: “Kent Highways is only too aware that the recent changes in traffic management to facilitate the safe completion of the Tonbridge High Street regeneration scheme has resulted in significant delays and inconvenience to residents, businesses and the traveling public in and around Tonbridge town centre, which we sincerely apologise for.”
