Thanet’s RAF Air Cadets enjoy improved IT facilities

Thanet’s RAF Air Cadets can now enjoy improved IT facilities to help them complete their exams thanks to community grant funding from Kent County Council.

Roger Latchford, local Member for Birchington & Villages has supported 438 (Thanet) Squadron with a grant of £1,651 to purchase much needed laptops and computer notebooks, enabling them to connect to the internet quickly and complete their studies with greater ease.

Mr Latchford said, “I am delighted to support the cadets with up to date IT equipment which will enable them to progress with their Btec and other awards and to gain the vital skills, qualifications and expertise to help them with their future careers”.

438 (Thanet) Squadron is a part of the RAF Air Cadets, a nationwide ‘air minded’ uniformed, group of young people aged from 12 to 18 years.

They meet two evenings a week and alternate evenings between lessons and other activities.

The lessons are designed to give the cadets knowledge of the background to the Air Cadets, the RAF and a progressive knowledge of aircraft related subjects.

As the cadet passes each level of subject they are awarded a ‘classification’ level, culminating in them being awarded a Btec in Aeronautical Studies.

The syllabus subjects are all on line so any exams require the cadet to log on to the internet to complete them.
