Overnight works as part of new Gravesend Bus Hub construction

Residents are being warned of overnight road closures to allow roadworks as part of the new Gravesend Bus Hub construction.

Kent County Council’s (KCC) contractor, FM Conway, will be resurfacing areas of Gravesend town centre across up to four nights from Wednesday, February 16, subject to weather conditions.

To minimise disruption the works will take place between 7pm and 5am.

During this time, the following traffic management measures will be in place:

  • No access to New Road from the Darnley Road and Bath Street junction
  • Garrick Street and Barrack Row will be closed with no access for buses and cycles from Clive Road via the bus gate to Barrack Row
  • Lane closures on Darnley Road between the junctions with Rathmore Road and Barrack Row

Noisier parts of the work will be completed first and are expected to have ended by midnight each evening. Quieter works, including laying new material, will take place throughout the early hours.

Kent County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, David Brazier

KCC’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, David Brazier, said: “This £4.17 million scheme will help improve rail, bus, bike and pedestrian links recognising how vital these are to Gravesend town centre.

“As the latest round of work is being carried out on busy major roads, we have no option but to complete this maintenance at night.

“We are mindful of residents and the impact on the town centre, which is why our contractor has committed to keeping noise to a minimum, as well as completing the loudest works as early in the evening as possible.”

Marshals will be available to help vehicles access their properties and pedestrian access will be preserved at all times.

All bus routes will be diverted while the works are ongoing and bus stops in Barrack Row, Garrick Street, Clive Road and King Street will be closed. Temporary stops will be installed in Rathmore Road and buses will use existing stops at Church Street with access available through St George’s Centre.

The AZ service will end at Overcliffe and return towards Northfleet via Bath Street, West Street and Thames Way.

The taxi rank in New Road will be closed with a temporary facility close by in Bath Street.
