The nominations for the Dementia Friendly Kent Awards 2017 are now open. These awards aim to recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication undertaken during the last year to improve the lives of people living with Dementia in Kent.
There are six categories as follows:
- Most inspiring Dementia Friendly Community Award
Any community which has acted in an inspiring way to benefit those living with dementia
- The Emma Kent Award for Outstanding Contribution
This is open to any inspiring individual who has made an outstanding contribution to improving lives of those affected by dementia, the individual may be a member of the community, a family carer, a person affected by dementia or an outstanding employee or volunteer.
- Dementia Friendly Organisation/ Company Award (Less than 250 staff)
This is open to any ‘small’ business, company or organisation including sports leisure, arts and hobby groups who have actively made a difference for people affected by dementia
- Dementia Friendly Organisation/ Company Award (More than 250 staff)
This is open to any ‘Large’ business, company or organisation including sports leisure, arts and hobby groups who have actively made a difference for people affected by dementia.
- Intergenerational Activity Award
This is open to any project which is working across the generations to benefit both those affected by dementia and younger people.
- Community and Partnership Project Award
This is open to any project which has been done in partnership with at least 2 other organisations and involving the local community.
Nominations will be open until to 31st August 2017. People will be able to nominate through an online application which will be available at:http://dementiafriendlykent.org.uk/dementia-friendly-kent-awards-2017/ or through downloading and returning a paper form which will also be available on the website.
In order to make a nomination people will be asked the following:
- Identify the category
- Your name and contact details
- The nominees name and contact details (or lead person if a group)
- Does the person know they are being nominated?
- A 500 word summary of the reason for nomination
- A maximum of 5 photos or pictures
Shortlisting will take place on 5th September 2017.
This year’s judging will be done via a combination of postal voting and a panel judging sessions which will be held in Tenterden on 19th September and Ashford on 28th September. Criteria for becoming either a member of the judging panel, or a postal voter is very basic, the person must be personally affected by dementia by either having a diagnosis or being a family carer to someone with a diagnosis.

Awards Ceremony: Friday 20th October 2017 (Oakwood House, Oakwood Road, Maidstone Kent, ME16 8AE)
