Graham Gibbens, Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health, said: “Businesses, charities, organisations and individuals across Kent are making a real difference to improving the experiences of people living with dementia.

“We are all likely to know someone who is living with dementia and it is all of our responsibility to make sure our communities are inclusive and support them to lead fulfilled and happy lives.

“These awards aim to recognise those who are leading the way and going above and beyond in supporting people living with dementia.”

Nominations close on 5 September and can be made online, on paper or with a video lasting up to 5 minutes. They will be judged by people living with dementia.

The winners will be announced at the 2016 Kent Dementia Awards on 24 October at The Oasis Academy, Isle of Sheppey.

Kent County Council is part of the Kent Dementia Action Alliance, along with colleagues in health, councils, businesses and the voluntary sector which are all working together to make Kent a better place for people living with dementia.

The Dementia Action Alliance aims to make Kent more inclusive of people with dementia, reduce stigma and increase awareness and understanding of the condition. Kent now has 400 Dementia Champions who have recruited and trained more than 20,000 Dementia Friends across the county and more online. There are eight Dementia Action Alliances and 14 areas registered as working to become dementia friendly.
