New awards scheme for community groups

Organisations and community groups across the county are being invited to apply for a new award recognising innovation in community sport and physical activity.

The KUDOS Awards have been launched by the Kent Sport & Physical Activity Service, which is looking for projects which have benefited residents’ physical or mental well being, encouraged people’s development, or helped a community.

Organisations are encouraged to provide details of projects they have undertaken over the past year, with a deadline for entries of 16 June.

Three projects will get the chance to work with Kent Sport and its media partners, to produce a short promotional film, which will be shown at the Kent & Medway Sports Conference on 26 September.

Attendees at the conference will then get the chance to vote for an overall winner, which will receive an award to the value of £500 to continue or extend the project.

Kevin Day, Sport & Physical Activity Service Manager, said: “We have already had a lot of interest in these awards and details of some fascinating projects, but we suspect there are many other organisations which are not yet aware of this opportunity to get recognition of their activities.”
