Mum 2 Mum Project set to expand

The Princess Project was able to expand their Mum 2 Mum project thanks to a £1,000 KCC members grant from Gary Cooke.

The project provides support to young mums to reduce social isolation, tackle low self esteem and improve parenting skills .

The project has recruited and trained five new volunteer befrienders as a result of the funding.

The befrienders have started meeting with their matched young mums on a regular basis which has had many beneficial effects on the local community including mums taking part have become more engaged in community activities.

For example: starting to participate in toddler groups, taking part in the Freedom programme which offers support for mums as they seek to return to work.

“It has meant a lot to me being part of the Princess Project. It’s been great knowing there’s someone to talk to in times where I’ve felt most alone- the advice and support has been amazing, the project has truly helped me and it will always be appreciated.”

Feedback from mums has included the following: “Me and my befriender are getting on really well. I can talk to her about anything and it’s really good to have [her] to talk to. I like the places we meet as the children can play while we chat.”

“[My befriender] has been very supportive and has given me the confidence I needed to make some life changing decisions. I and my family have got a whole new life, and we are much happier.”
