Malling Parkrun receives cash boost from KCC

Local people in the Malling area can now enjoy a free, weekly 5km timed run thanks to a £1,000 KCC Member grant from Sarah Hohler which supported its start-up costs.

The new Parkrun at Leybourne Lakes Country Park is a joint KCC venture with Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council.

It is open to everyone and is organised and managed by volunteers who now have the necessary timing equipment, high visibility jackets and other resources needed to help them arrange this weekly run for the general public.

The run provides a flat, accessible and safe route for people of all ages and abilities to use.

The only stipulation on grounds of health and safety is that children under the age of 12 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Beverly Emmerson from Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council said, “We realised there was a gap in the Malling area to site a new Parkrun and already the run is proving very popular”.

Mrs Hohler said, “I am delighted to support a project which promotes KCC’s healthy living agenda and which is inclusive, free and an effective way for local people to engage in regular physical activity”.
