Maintenance work has been carried out on the Grove Ferry Bridge earlier than planned due to lockdown.

The bridge, first renovated by KCC back in 2000, needed a new waterproofing layer and surfacing.

Work was brought forward after KCC and maintenance contractor Amey took the lockdown opportunity to review its programme of work and carry out schemes that would normally have a substantial impact on pedestrians and traffic.

Grove Ferry took its name from a hand drawn ferry that crossed the River Stour with the pub, built in 1831, taking the name The Grove Ferry Inn.

KCC Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport Michael Payne said: “When work was carried out earlier this month, we were seeing considerably fewer vehicles on our roads with lockdown, giving us the opportunity to tackle certain schemes with less impact on our residents.

“The local pub was very happy to have the work completed as it would not suffer any additional loss of trade if carried out during any future relaxation on the hospitality trade.”
