Kent County Council waives fees for Platinum Jubilee street parties

Fees waived for Platinum Jubilee street party road closures

People wanting to have a street party to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will not have to pay a road closure application fee.Kent County Council (KCC) is inviting residents to express an interest in closing a road by completing an online form before the deadline of 31st March 2022.

Once applications are received, KCC officers will make sure the route is safe and the event complies with terms and conditions before confirming it can go ahead.

To be eligible for the fee waiver, the road closure must be planned for up to one day between 2nd and 5th June and must be for the sole purpose of holding a celebration street party in a residential area.

Before applying for a closure, applicants must speak to residents in the area to make sure they have no objections, ensure signs are clearly visible for all road users and make sure all rubbish is cleared up before the road is reopened.

Successful sites will be provided with a ‘Road Closed’ signs.

KCC’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, David Brazier, said: “I am really glad that we are able to waive the application cost for neighbourhood groups wishing to apply to close their road for a Jubilee Street Party.

“We are encouraging people interested in getting together in this way to look at low-impact sites and residential areas. Where it is inappropriate to close a suggested road due to public transport or other factors, officers will work with applicants to find an alternative which suits everyone.

“I would like to wish anyone hoping to organise an event like this a very happy and safe Platinum Jubilee weekend.”

KCC’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, Mike Hill, said: “This is a fantastic way to celebrate such a momentous occasion for the whole country.

“I would encourage anyone interested in marking the Platinum Jubilee in this way to find out more and get in touch by filling out the form.”

KCC Chairman Lesley Game said: “This moment provides us with an opportunity to come together and celebrate one of our greatest institutions of this nation.”
