Kent businesses needing help to navigate new trade rules will be able to put their queries directly to experts – including Kent County Council Trading Standards.

Hosted by the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, Tuesday’s EU Transition: Ask the Experts’ free zoom webinar, 10.30am-12.30pm, is designed to be highly interactive with the content of the session led by questions from attending businesses – and it is not too late to register.

Help is virtually on hand for Kent businesses who need help to comply with new trade rules

Joining KCC Principal Trading Standards Officer and food standards specialist Nathan Martin on the panel will be:

  • Deirdre Wells, OBE, Chief Executive of Visit Kent
  • Graham Card, Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce import and export adviser, and
  • Sue Rathmell, MHA MacIntyre Hudson VAT specialist

Rules on exports changed immediately the UK left the EU.

And while the Government announced on Thursday 11th  March it was pushing back the introduction of import checks and inspections by six months to enable businesses to focus on recovering from the pandemic, firms still need to get ready for new requirements for bringing goods into the country from 1 October.

KCC Head of Trading Standards Steve Rock said: “Businesses are still learning how to be compliant with new export rules that came in at the start of the year.

“The good news is there’s now more time to prepare for import changes so I want to encourage firms to use that time wisely and make good use of the support on hand – whether you bring goods into the country directly, or via supply chains.

“Making mistakes that lead to delays at the border, or cause a general disruption in the flow of products and supplies, costs both time and money – so it really does pay to be prepared.”

The 16th March event will be chaired by the Kent & Medway Growth Hub’s Tudor Price and a recording of the session made available after to delegates.

Businesses are asked to submit their questions for panel members during the registration process. More details on how to sign up for the session are on the Kent Invicta Chamber website here

Further Trading Standards webinars to help Kent businesses adjust to new trade rules are also being scheduled with dates promoted on the Kent County Council Trading Standards EU Trade page, the Kent and Medway Growth Hub website as well as Twitter (@Kentcc_business), Facebook (KCC.BUSINESS.ADVICE) and LinkedIn (https://uk.linkedin.com/in/kccbusinessadvice).
