Consultation into 8 walking & cycling schemes across Ebbsfleet, Greenhithe, and Northfleet starts today

A consultation into eight walking and cycling improvement schemes across Ebbsfleet, Greenhithe, and Northfleet starts today (Wednesday).

The schemes are:

  • Ebbsfleet: Swanscombe to Castle Hill and access into Ebbsfleet Academy; Ackers Drive connection.
  • Greenhithe: London Road to Greenhithe Station; Bean Road
  • Northfleet North: Northfleet High Street
  • Northfleet South and Painters Ash: Springhead Road; National Cycle Route 177 to Hall Road; Hall Road

They all form part of what are collectively known as the Green Corridors Programme and aim to provide high-quality, connected routes to support a shift towards sustainable modes of travel.

David Brazier

KCC Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport David Brazier said: “We very much want to encourage sustainable and active travel and ensure that walking and cycling is safer, easier, attractive, and inclusive.

“We have worked closely with the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation to develop some initial proposals and we would now very much like to hear from residents on what they think.

“They range from providing a new access into Ebbsfleet Academy, widening the pavements on Northfleet High Street, a new cycle route to Greenhithe station, and one-way traffic on Bean Road.

“Please take a look at the proposals as we very much want to hear your views and the feedback we receive will be vital in helping to shape how the schemes are developed and taken forward.”

The schemes will be funded by Ebbsfleet Development Corporation and delivered by Kent County Council.

In the next six months, a second consultation will be held on the larger schemes – Hall Road, Springhead Road, Northfleet High Street, and Bean Road – with more detail of the designs to ensure that they best suit the needs of local communities.

The consultation, available at www.kent.gov.uk/greencorridors, will run for six weeks from today (July 21) to August 31.
