A competition has been launched to name 17 new gritters.
KCC’s 60 gritters and five mini gritters warmed up their engines last week on their first shout of the winter season.
However, among Gritty McGritFace, Gritney Skiers and Snow Farah are 17 without names.
The county’s children now have the opportunity to submit names they’d like to see emblazoned on the sides of Kent’s yellow anti-slip machiney.
KCC grits over 2,500km of Kent’s roads and has 53 primary salting routes and five additional routes utilising small gritters for narrow roads
If icy conditions or snow is expected, KCC salts about a third of the county’s road network which includes the A and B roads, major strategic, other strategic and locally important roads – these are termed primary routes.
The winning gritter names will be printed onto the front of the vehicles. Winners will also receive a certificate and a photo of the named gritter.
People are encouraged to keep an eye out for gritters and tag the name on the Gritting Kent Facebook or Twitter page whenever you see it.
Entries close midnight 14 November and winners will be notified within the following 7 days.
