Cathedral tribute for exceptional public servant

The huge contribution of former Kent County Council (KCC) Chairman Ann Allen MBE to Kent is to be celebrated in a Service of Thanksgiving at Canterbury Cathedral.

Current Kent County Council Chairman Lesley Game said: “Ann was incredibly devoted to public service, greatly loved and very much missed.

“I can think of no more fitting way to remember her dedication and determination to make a difference, especially to the children and young people of Kent.”

A retired catering officer for the Dartford Hospitals, and a former foster carer, Mrs Allen was made an MBE for her services to the community in Dartford and Wilmington in 2014.

First elected to the County Council in 1997, she was a member of Wilmington Parish Council from 1983 and Dartford Borough Council since 1987.

At KCC she held the post of Chief Whip for more than 10 years and was for a time Deputy Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education.

She also chaired the Corporate Parenting Panel, displaying her deep and intensely personal commitment to the young lives in Kent County Councils’ care.

The service starts at 11am. Doors will open from 10.15am and guests should be seated by 10.40am.
